Pendleton pair hurt in crash with Kootenai deputy

Two 19 year olds from Pendleton, Ore., were injured in Coeur d’Alene early today when their vehicle collided with a Kootenai County sheriff’s deputy vehicle. The deputy was on the way to an emergency with lights and sirens turned on when the accident occurred at North Government Way and West Appleway Avenue at 1:37 a.m. The driver, Kyle Martinez, was headed west on Appleway in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass when he collided with the southbound deputy in a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria prowl car. Martinez and a passenger, Ryan R. Pullen, were both taken to Kootenai Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The accident is under investigation, and impairment may have been a factor in Martinez’s driving, deputies said.
