Religion notebook: Halloween events planned

With Halloween just around the corner, churches are planning special parties and festivals.

At Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th Ave., the church will hold its 15th annual Hallowed Rest Stop on Halloween from 5 to 8 p.m.

The church will be open during that time for children and their families out trick-or-treating to come inside, warm up and enjoy hot dogs, chili, hot cocoa, coffee and mini cupcakes.

There will also be pictures taken of everyone in costume.

Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will offer a free Harvest Party on Halloween from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event will include inflatables, carnival games and candy.

There will also be free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks.

• At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, the church will present its Fall Festival Bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day will include lefse, 13-bean soup mix, hand-quilted gifts and baked goods.

The church will also sell raffle tickets for a handmade quilt giveaway.

Speakers

St. Patrick Catholic Church and School, 2706 E. Queen Ave., will present Tom Curran, director of Trinity Formation Resources, Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Curran will speak about his book, “The Mass: Four Encounters with Jesus that will Change Your Life.”

• Curran will also speak at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

Curran’s topics will be “The Power of Eucharistic Presence” and “Six Stages of Eucharistic Prayer.”

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will offer “Samhain: Celtic Winter Begins” during its next Celtic Celebration today at 7 p.m.

The service will include a Christian service of communion, sung chants, Celtic prayers and music.

A potluck reception will follow the service.
