DVD releases: Friends reunite in ‘Sex’ sequel

Philadelphia Inquirer

“Sex and the City 2”: This big-screen sequel reunites the four chums who strive to get each other off a runaway train and back on track. It’s not a train wreck; what resonates is the upbeat feeling that girls just want to have friends. (2:27; R for strong sexual content and language) • • 1/2

“Winter’s Bone”: A spare, powerful mystery set in the Missouri Ozarks, about a 17-year-old girl (Jennifer Lawrence) who goes looking for her father, and runs into meth dealers and wary, ornery kin in the process. (1:40; R for some drug material, language and violent content) • • • 1/2

“The Girl Who Played With Fire”: Not as accomplished a piece of filmmaking as the first adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium books, but still featuring the formidable Noomi Rapace as the brooding, multipierced, computer-hacking waif, Lisbeth Salander. Probably not as easy to track for folks unfamiliar with the book. (2:09; R for brutal violence including a rape, some strong sexual content, nudity and language) • • •

Also available: “Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy,” “You Don’t Know Jack,” “Wild Grass,” “Dancing Across Borders,” “Evening Primrose”
