After reading Mr. Yake’s letter on Oct. 7, I had to reply. Sen. Chris Marr has lived in Spokane over 20 years and was a managing partner of a successful auto dealership that employed dozens of Spokane residents. He also served on the board of regents of Washington State University and was chairperson of the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce. Chris has a long history of positive Spokane community involvement.

Mike Baumgartner attended Gonzaga Prep as a freshman and sophomore while his parents lived in Pullman. Public records show that he voted twice in the state of Washington. Records also show that Mr. Baumgartner moved to Spokane in January 2010.

Mr. Yake’s letter stated that Baumgartner left Spokane to “defend our country” but he was actually employed with the State Department. Those of us who proudly served in the military and truly defended our country take that as an insult.

The choice for the 6th District Senate: Chris Marr, a candidate that knows and has served Spokane exceptionally well, or Michael Baumgartner, (who) left our community when he was 16 years old and returned 10 months ago. You choose.
