In brief: Rockford Lions plan Halloween Kids Party

ROCKFORD – Spooks, specters, ghouls and goblins can have a scary fun time at the McIntosh Grange Hall in Rockford at the Halloween Kids Party on Sunday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Children can play games, win goodies on the cake walk and enjoy Halloween treats.

The Rockford Lions Club will host its annual wiener roast during the party, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

North Palouse food bank sets hours of operation

FAIRFIELD – The North Palouse Community Food Bank has announced its hours of operation for November and December.

The food bank will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 and 27 and Dec. 11. It also will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.

The food bank is supported entirely by community donations and serves Fairfield, Rockford, Latah and Waverly. It is located behind the Fairfield Fire Station on North Railroad Street. Those with emergency food needs can call (509) 279-0842.

SCRAPS launches annual Dog House Drive

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service, 2521 N. Flora Road, is asking for the community’s help to keep dogs warm this winter with its annual Dog House Drive.

SCRAPS will accept gently used and new dog houses that they will make available to pet owners in need.

SCRAPS also is offering an adoption special on cats, due to an overflow of drop-offs at the shelter.

From noon until 5:30 p.m. today, cats can be adopted for the price of a $15 cat license. They will also be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and will receive a free health exam.

Veterans Day luncheon planned at church

SPOKANE VALLEY – Valley Meals on Wheels and the Coeur d’Alene Casino will host a Veterans Day luncheon on Nov. 11 at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road, at 11:30 a.m.

The event will include entertainment by the Minstrels of Project Joy.
