In brief: Spokane AIDS Walk registration under way

RIVERFRONT PARK – Early registration is now available for the Spokane AIDS Walk, Sept. 11 at Riverfront Park.

The walk, themed “Cover Your Head!,” will begin at 10:30 a.m. and includes hat contests for the most original hat and most creative hat, and prizes for individuals and teams raising the most money. Registration is also available the day of the walk and will begin at 9:30 a.m.

All proceeds support the Spokane AIDS Network in its work to serve those living with HIV and AIDS and to prevent the spread of the disease.

To register, visit www.SpokaneAIDS.org. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children/youth; each participant will receive a T-shirt and water bottle. Participants can register as individuals, form a team or join an existing team. Individuals and teams will compete against one another in recruiting members and raising funds.

Artist demonstrations planned at Pottery Plus

RIVERSIDE – Pottery Place Plus, 203 N. Washington St., will host “Artists in Action” on Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Area artists will demonstrate their work, including wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery, silk painting, paper making, raku pottery, papier-mâché, basket weaving, spinning, bead weaving, knitting and felting and metal working. Saturday’s works will feature greeting cards and scratch art.

Artists will have works for sale and host studios will have light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

Hillyard group seeks board members

NORTHEAST – The city of Spokane is seeking applicants for a North-East Development Advisory Board.

Ten people are needed who will represent specific groups of stakeholders, including industrial businesses and property owners and non-industrial property owners. Other positions must represent financing/banking, real-estate property development and at-large representation from redevelopment/ development professions.

Center seeks tour leaders for day trips

NORTH HILL – Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland St., is in need of tour leaders who would like to accompany members on day tours around Spokane and the vicinity, on day trips to wineries, bistros, lake cruises, farms and places of interest within a 150-mile radius of Spokane.
