The Slice: They put the cart before the decorum
Let’s start by assessing this area’s shopping-cart etiquette.
“Horrible,” wrote Shireen Brigman.
Carol Polser can’t understand why people park carts in the middle of the aisle. “Even more frustrating is when someone sees me waiting to pass and they just look away and ignore me,” she wrote.
Diane Folland, who said Costco and Wal-Mart are where she sees the most flabbergasting behavior, is mystified by those who turn their carts sideways when stopping to get something off a shelf.
And Roberta Garner said her husband, Bruce, has a theory. “He says the fancier the hairdo, the bigger the blockage.”
Overheard during a tour of the WSU campus: A high school student noted that he wasn’t going to be awarded any scholarships because his “GPS” wasn’t high enough.
Indeed. His GPA probably isn’t all that hot either.
A TV show set in Deer Park would be called: “The Animal Hoarder Next Door.” – Barbara Arenal
“Running With the Herd.” – Marta Bunch
“No, We Are Not in Canada.” – Ed Morris
Big fingers, small keys: One of my longtime correspondents noticed that a female friend had electronically sent him a picture of her new tattoo. He wrote back, “Nice tat.”
At least, that’s what he meant to say. Instead, he typed something one letter off.
No, not that. The typo turned his message into “Nice fat.”
Slice answers: Quite a few of those who were eighth-graders at Stevens Grade School in 1955 get together several times a year. “It’s a pretty amazing group,” said the husband of one of the classmates.
And the five eighth-graders who graduated from Idaho’s Cataldo School in 1948 held a reunion last month. The quintet included my friend Marvin Lake.
Irritant of the day: It bugs Erv Koller when waiters kneel next to the table to take his order. “Give me a break!” he wrote. “Get off your knees.”
Today’s Slice question: An annual award named after you would be given in recognition of what?
