In brief: Mead opens GSL volleyball with sweep of LC Tigers
The Zalopany sisters combined to help Mead to a sweep of Lewis and Clark on Thursday at LC as both teams opened Greater Spokane League play.
Kuulei Zalopany recorded 11 kills and two aces for the Panthers, and Hannah Zalopany added four blocks in the 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 victory.
Malea Webb led the Tigers with 17 assists and an ace.
In other GSL openers, Lindsay Stockson had 39 assists and four aces to lift Gonzaga Prep to a five-set victory over host University in their league opener. Jessica Moon had 27 assists for the Titans, who fell 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 26-28, 15-12 to the Bullpups. … Kenzie Reid had 31 assists as Mt. Spokane swept Shadle Park 25-10, 25-19, 25-21 in the league opener for both teams at Mt. Spokane. Darby Santos led the Highlanders with nine kills and 10 assists.
• Inland Empire League 5A: Savannah Blinn had 15 kills and five blocks to lead Lewiston to a 24-14, 25-21, 25-17 victory over Coeur d’Alene at Lewiston. Kylie Curtis had eight kills and two aces for the Vikings (0-3 IEL) in a losing cause, and Paige Schlader had 33 assists for the Bengals (1-1).
• Inland Empire League 4A: Ariel Moe had 20 assists, four aces and a pair of blocks as visiting Sandpoint (2-0 IEL) beat Lakeland 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 at Rathdrum. Kaitlyn Whitesitt finished with four kills and three blocks for the Hawks (0-2).
• Great Northern League: Aaliyah Ashley-Meek led West Valley with 26 assists and four aces as the Eagles (2-0 GNL) beat Clarkston 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-13 at WV in the Bantams’ league opener. … Stephanie Logan had 14 kills and three aces and Kara Weitz had 31 assists as visiting Pullman (2-0) beat East Valley (1-1) 25-17, 25-7, 25-13. … Medical Lake outlasted Deer Park 25-12, 21-25, 17-25, 25-15, 16-14 for a victory at Deer Park. Jessica Baier had eight aces for the Cardinals (1-1), and Olnia Hage had six assists. Alisha Perez had eight kills and six aces for the Stags (0-2), and Kelsie Carlson had 14 assists.
• Intermountain League: Markayle Acord had 11 kills, two aces and five blocks to lead Bonners Ferry (1-2 IML) to a 25-19, 25-17, 27-25 victory over visiting Priest River (0-2).

Great Northern League: West Valley scored twice in the first 6 minutes in a 4-1 win over visiting Clarkston. Brittini Mauro and Missy Atabelo gave the Eagles (2-1, 2-0) an early lead before the Bantams (0-2, 0-1) scored to make it a 2-1 game at the half. Katie Wee and Sarah Marro scored after the break to put the game away. … Allie Druffel scored twice, including the winner in the second overtime, as Pullman beat host East Valley 4-3. It was the first win over the Knights (2-4, 1-1) for the Greyhounds (4-0, 2-0). Amanda Bliesner scored two goals for EV. … Alison Ruygrok handled all of the scoring, tallying all three goals as Deer Park (1-2, 1-1) beat visiting Medical Lake (1-3, 0-2) 3-0.
