Vandals eye UNLV mix

What has the Idaho football team (1-1) learned about itself after two weeks?

It’s hard to say.

The Vandals crushed a middling FCS team in North Dakota, then lost at Nebraska. Tonight, finally, UI goes against similar competition.

UNLV is 0-2, but both losses have come to top-15 teams, Wisconsin and Utah. The Rebels of the Mountain West have mustered just two passing touchdowns so far, and quarterback Omar Clayton leads UNLV in rushing with 87 yards.

“There’s the blend of the option game and the throwing game,” UI coach Robb Akey said of Clayton. “There’s a challenge right there in front of us: Be strong in that fashion and be accountable for our assignments.

“There were some times we were good at that against Nebraska. There were some times it faltered a little bit, and you could certainly see when it did.”

The Vandals went 2-0 last year against the MWC, beating San Diego State and Colorado State.
