Prep roundup: Riley leads CV Bears past Bullpups
Kendra Riley had eight kills to push the Central Valley volleyball team to a 2-0 start in the Greater Spokane League with a 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 win Tuesday against host Gonzaga Prep (1-1).
Kanani Cunneely had 12 kills and 10 digs and Lindsey Stockton tallied 33 assists for the Bullpups. CV capitalized on 34 hitting errors by the Bullpups as well as 10 digs from Delaney Fisher to earn the win.
In other GSL matches, sophomore Kennadie Clute finished with eight kills and two blocks and Marissa Verduci added eight kills as Mt. Spokane (2-0) swept Ferris (1-1) 25-6, 25-19, 25-15 at Ferris. … Darby Santos and Kendall Besneske combined for 20 kills, 24 assists and 20 digs and Shadle Park (1-1) bounced back from losing its first match of league play with a 3-0 victory over visiting Rogers (0-2).
Hannah Zalopany led with nine kills and Danica Christian added 17 assists as Mead (2-0) never allowed more than 20 points in its three-game sweep of North Central (0-2) at NC. Kim Latwesen had 17 assists and 11 digs to lead the Indians. … Jordan Schmerer led University’s defensive effort with 32 digs to help the Titans (1-1) take a 3-0 win at Lewis and Clark (0-2). McKenzie Hamilton added 11 kills and Catherine Garcia had 16 assists for U-Hi.
Great Northern: Jamie Weisner tallied 10 kills and Tiffany Ho added 17 assists as Clarkston (1-1) defeated Medical Lake’s (1-2) 3-0 in ML. … Jenny Nakata had 10 digs and two aces and Pullman (3-0) remained unbeaten in league play with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 victory over Cheney (0-2) in Pullman. Sayde Davis led the Blackhawks with 20 assists, two aces and five digs. … Alyssa Dorr had 13 assists, four aces and eight digs for East Valley (2-1) and Deer Park (0-3) could not dig itself out of an early hole, losing the opening game 25-4 en route to a sweep by the Knights in Deer Park.
IEL 5A: Jennifer Schuman recorded 11 kills, three aces and 12 digs to lead Lake City (2-1) to a 3-1 win against Coeur d’Alene (0-4) at LC. The Timberwolves took games three and four to earn the win, with two players finishing with double-digit kills.
IEL: Ashley Jibby hammered home nine kills and Brianna Fribe served five aces as Post Falls swept Sandpoint in PF. Ariel Moe did her best to keep the Bulldogs in the match, leading them in kills (eight), assists (12) and aces (four). … Savannah Blinn led with 13 kills and two blocks and Paige Schlater finished with 34 assists to lead visiting Lewiston to a 3-1 win against Moscow.
Intermountain: Kellogg (2-1) bounced back from a 25-22 loss in the second game and won the third and fourth games 25-23, 25-21 to overcome Priest River (0-3) in PR. Melissa Trost led the Spartans with 12 kills and Morgan Stewart added 15 digs in the loss.

Great Northern: Madie Moore and Chae Brown scored Cheney’s first two goals this season and the Blackhawks (1-5, 1-1) earned their first win of the season, handing Pullman (4-1, 2-1) its first loss 2-0 in Pullman. The Blackhawks went five matches without scoring a goal before breaking through against Pullman. … Brenda Rose Stark and Sabrina Earle each converted goals in the shootout, lifting Medical Lake (2-3, 1-2) to a 3-2 victory over Clarkston (0-3, 0-2) in ML. Stark and Earle were the only players on either team to score in the shootout and also added the two regulation goals for the Cardinals in the match. … Camille Ness’ goal in the sixth minute proved to be enough as East Valley (3-4, 2-1) blanked Deer Park (1-3, 1-2) in DP. Drew Petroske collected 11 saves for the Stags.
IEL 5A: Aubree Mercier scored two goals and added an assist and scored the tying goal in the 73rd minute to help Post Falls (2-2-1, 2-0-1) rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie Lewiston (0-1-3, 0-1-2) 3-3 in Post Falls. After assisting the Trojans’ first goal in the 51st minute, Mercier scored the final two in the last 35 minutes of play.

IEL 4A: Tanner Williams scored two goals and Sandpoint (8-1, 3-0) held off Moscow (2-4, 0-2) 2-1 in Sandpoint. Williams scored in the fourth minute and then added his second goal in the 72nd, giving the Bulldogs the cushion they would need.
