In brief: Guitarist to offer workshops
POST FALLS – Brad Richter, a local guitarist who works with at-risk youth, will be conducting workshops during his weeklong guitar residency at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., Monday through Friday.
Richter will end his week at the center in concert with cellist Viktor Uzur Friday at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults and $15 for students.

‘Evita’ onstage through Oct. 10
COEUR D’ALENE – The Lake City Playhouse’s production of “Evita” will continue through Oct. 10.

Film ‘180’ retraces adventurer’s trek
COEUR D’ALENE – North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuit’s program will show the film, “180° South: Conquerors of the Useless” on Wednesday at the Edminster Student Union outdoor amphitheater at 6:30 p.m.
The film follows adventurer Jeff Johnson, as he retraces the epic 1968 journey of his heroes Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia. Along the way he gets shipwrecked, surfs the longest wave of his life and faces a bitter setback.
Tickets are $7 to the general public and free for NIC students, seniors and children under 12.

Candice Reed – author – to speak
COEUR D’ALENE – Candice Reed, the co-author of “Thank You for Firing Me! How to Catch the Next Wave of Success After You Lose Your Job,” will speak at the Coeur d’Alene Library, 702 E. Front Ave., on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Before her career in journalism, she lost jobs as an insurance salesperson, a funeral director, a singing/dancing waitress and an ice-cream binging weight-loss counselor. She is now a freelance journalist, creates blogs for credit unions and works in copywriting and speechwriting.
Reed has published more than 5,000 business features, personal essays and travel articles in newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Christian Science Monitor.

Golf event helps scholarship fund
COEUR D’ALENE – Members of the American Indian Student Alliance at North Idaho College have been raising money to fund scholarships for American Indian students. During the 2009-’10 school year, the group raised $2,000 for scholarships.
In continuing their efforts, the group is now working to raise money that will be matched through the American Indian Education Foundation challenge grant program. The national group will match funds raised by NIC in support of American Indian student scholarships between August 2010 and February 2011. Funds used in the match must be from donors who have not given funds to NIC in support of native studentsbefore.
On Friday, Coeur d’Alene Casino Circling Raven Golf Club will host a golf tournament to benefit the Che’nshish, or “Given” Scholarship through the NIC Foundation. Che’nshish is a Coeur d’Alene tribal expression to assist, provide for and give to others.
The four-person scramble will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Nongolfers are invited to attend the dinner at 6 p.m. and no host bar at 5:30. A silent auction will be from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Stensgar Pavilion and will include artwork by American Indian artists, getaway packages to Northern Quest Casino and Kootenai River Inn and Spa and event tickets for the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center.
Entry fee is $100 per person and includes round of golf, golf cart, driving range, silent auction and dinner. Dinner tickets only are $20 per person.

ROSE LAKE – The Rose Lake Historical Society will host its annual hunter’s breakfast and indoor yard sale on Saturday and next Sunday at the Rose Lake School on state Highway 3.
Breakfast will be served from 4:30 to 11 a.m. and is all-you-can-eat. The yard sale will be from 6 to 10 a.m.
Cost is $7 per person. The event is open to the public.
