Prep roundup: Highlanders top Bullpups in GSL

Kendall Vesneske led Shadle Park (3-1) with 22 kills, 33 assists, 10 digs and 10 blocks, helping the Highlanders erase a 2-0 deficit Tuesday to win their five-game marathon against Gonzaga Prep (2-2) 3-2 at GP.

After losing the first two games by a total of nine points, SP rallied to win its next three.

The Bullpups were led by Vanessa Kawacki’s 17 kills and 14 digs from Christina Santorsola.

In other GSL matches, Annie Arnzen slammed 13 kills and Kenze Reid added 21 assists and 10 digs as Mt. Spokane (4-0) swept North Central (0-4) 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 at NC. … Mackenzie McPhee had eight kills and seven digs as Mead (3-1) cruised to a 3-0 victory against Rogers (0-4) at Mead. … Delaney Fisher led a solid defensive effort for Central Valley (4-0) with 15 digs as the Bears held off Lewis and Clark (0-4) 3-0 at CV. Despite a winless league record, the Tigers made things close, losing the three games 26-24, 25-21, 25-22, with defense playing the major roll in the win for CV.

• Great Northern League: Tiffany Weisner tallied nine aces and Jamie Weisner added nine digs and a block as Clarkston (2-2) swept host Deer Park (0-4) 3-0 in DP. … Elisha Allred provided the kill of the match for East Valley (3-2), putting the Knights up 26-25 in the fourth game en route to a 27-25 set score that gave them a 3-1 victory against Cheney (1-3) at EV. Brooklyn Bellomy led EV with 11 kills, while Laynie Ereaux had 10 digs. … Latasha Lofton led a strong effort from the serving line with nine aces and Shaniqua Nilles had nine kills as West Valley (4-0) swept Medical Lake (1-4) 3-0 in ML.

IEL 5A: Ashley Jibby provided offense and defense, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs for Post Falls (5-0), which dropped the opening game 25-19, but rallied to win the next three, beating Coeur d’Alene (1-5) 3-1 in CdA.

IEL 4A: Erin Ogden finished with 20 kills as Lakeland (1-3) exacted revenge on an earlier loss to Moscow, beating the Bears 3-1 in Rathdrum. During the third game, with the match tied 1-1, Ogden led a defensive effort with eight digs that helped the Hawks win 25-23, en route to the four-game victory. Talia Chandler led Moscow with nine kills.

• IEL: After dropping the opening game 25-19, Sandpoint fought back to beat Lake City 3-1 in Coeur d’Alene. Jennifer Schuman had 20 kills in the loss for the Timberwolves.

• Intermountain: Melissa Trost had 10 kills and 20 digs to lead Priest River (1-3) to its first league win, a 3-0 sweep of host Timberlake (1-3) in Spirit Lake. … Molly Masterson had 11 kills and Mariah Gladden added three blocks and an ace as St. Maries (5-0) handled Bonners Ferry (1-4) 3-0 in BF.

IEL 5A: In his second game back from an injury, Jorge Villalobos scored a goal and added an assist and Coeur d’Alene (9-2-1, 4-1) blanked Lewiston (1-8, 0-5) 3-0 in Lewiston. … A pair of first-half goals from Connor Kenna and Scott Benner proved to be enough offense as Post Falls (10-1-1, 3-1-1) edged Lake City (7-3-1, 2-2) 2-1 in PF.

• Great Northern: A free kick from Courtney Hosffeld in the 54th minute gave West Valley the lead and Torrey Finn added a second goal as the Eagles (3-3-1, 3-1) shut out Medical Lake (2-6, 1-4) 2-0 in ML. … Hannah Bowerman kicked home the winning goal in the 88th minute in the second overtime and East Valley (5-4, 4-1) pulled off a 3-2 victory against visiting Cheney (2-6, 2-2). After trailing 2-0 through the first half, the Blackhawks tied the match with two goals in the second, as Hilary Martin’s score sent it to overtime. … Nichole Ball scored a goal and added the first shootout goal for Deer Park (3-3, 2-2), which outscored Clarkston (0-6, 0-4) 4-3 in the shootout to win 5-4 in DP. Angelina Tenwick had two goals for the Bantams.

IEL 5A: Alyssa Allen scored on an assist from Nikki Webster in the 70th minute to lift Lake City (3-3-3, 0-1-1) to a 1-0 victory against Post Falls (4-4-4, 2-1-1) in Coeur d’Alene. Webster started the winning play from the right side.

IEL 4A: Megan Pagano scored two goals, including the game-tying goal in the 76th minute as Sandpoint (2-6-3, 1-1-1) drew even with Moscow (4-6-3, 2-0-2) 4-4 in Moscow. Despite not earning the win, Moscow clinched the IEL 4A title and will host the district tournament in October.
