Post Falls wraps up IEL 5A volleyball title

The Post Falls volleyball team graduated six seniors, five of whom were starters, off last year’s 5A Inland Empire League champions. PF coach Willow Hanna had a bit of a rebuilding project this fall. She thought she had the pieces; it was a matter of finding the right combinations. Things came together nicely as it turns out as Post Falls topped visiting Lake City 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 on Thursday to secure a repeat league title. “I think it says a lot for our program,” Hanna said. “I think we knew we had the (ability), but when you’re introducing eight kids to the varsity level, you’re not sure what that’s going to look like. We’re young and they had a lot to learn.” The Trojans are still learning. Post Falls (6-0) overcame inconsistent serving to hold off the Timberwolves (2-2). “We have a little bit of trouble with some serves once in a while, but tonight was horrible,” Hanna said. “That’s not a typical night for us. We missed way too many serves and quite frankly gave them too many opportunities.” “We’re getting better than we were at the beginning of the season,” LC coach Bret Taylor said. “We just have to get rid of our unforced errors.” Ashley Jibby led PF with nine kills and 12 digs. Allison Meehan had eight kills and three aces in a late 6-0 surge in the final game. Jennifer Schuman led LC with 12 kills and 10 digs. In another 5A IEL match, Lewiston (3-2) topped Coeur d’Alene (1-5) 3-1 at CdA.
