Pitching guides Indians past Canadians

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Christopher Hanna combined with three relievers on a four-hitter Thursday night as the Spokane Indians broke through in their five-game series at Nat Bailey Stadium with a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canadians.

Vancouver (3-6 in the Northwest League’s second half) had defeated Spokane (4-5) in the first two games of the series.

Hanna allowed three hits and one earned run in four innings, striking out three and walking three.

Victor Payano (2-5) followed with two hitless innings and earned the win. Kyle Hendricks worked two innings, striking out two and giving up one hit, and Matthew West earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.

Spokane took a 2-0 lead in the third on Trever Adams’ two-run single to left field. Nick Vickerson extended the lead to 3-0 with his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left in the fourth.

Vancouver reached Hanna for a run in its fourth. Roan Salas hit a ground-rule double to left and moved around on a single and groundout.

Rougned Odor’s two-out RBI single in Spokane’s sixth completed the scoring.
