Love’s 22 points guide West Valley’s girls past Pullman at district

Hannah Love notched a game-high 22 points, Shaniqua Nilles added 16 points and host West Valley (17-4) opened up a 14-2 first-quarter lead, cruising to a 55-39 victory over Pullman (11-10) in the second round of the District 7 2A tournament Wednesday.

The Eagles extended their lead to double digits in the second half. They will play Clarkston at Central Valley High School at 6 p.m. Friday. The Greyhounds, led by Shelby Cheslek’s 11 points, will play Cheney at 5:30 p.m.

Clarkston 56, Cheney 41: Jamie Weisner scored 12 of her 19 points in the first half, helping the host Bantams (16-5) take a 23-point halftime lead over the Blackhawks (11-10). Weisner added nine rebounds for the Bantams. Allie Brown’s 11 points led Cheney.

District 7 1A

Freeman 47, Newport 26: Alyssa Maine poured in a game-high 20 points and Molly McIntyre added 10 rebounds as the Scotties (20-1) cruised to a win over the visiting Grizzlies (15-7), taking a 31-8 lead at halftime. Miranda Frederick led the Grizzlies with eight points.

District 9 1B

St. John-Endicott 61, Garfield-Palouse 33: Alli Winters and Emily Kucklick each finished with 13 points and the host Eagles (17-3) opened up an 18-point halftime lead with a 21-2 run in the second quarter against the Vikings (8-14).

Rosalia 64, Tekoa-Oakesdale 56 (2OT): Briann Maley tallied 16 points and eight rebounds and Mackenzie Reddish added 13 points and five assists as the Spartans (14-7) outscored the visiting Nighthawks (9-12) 12-4 in the second overtime.

Idaho 3A District I

Priest River 55, Bonners Ferry 39: Steffie Pavey scored 14 points, Liz Halcro added 10 points and 14 rebounds and the Spartans (12-9) outscored the Badgers (4-16) a combined 28-10 in the second and third quarters to build a 17-point lead at Lakeland High in Rathdrum.

Timberlake 53, Kellogg 27: Cassie Thompson controlled the game with 27 points and the Tigers (17-4) took a 33-9 lead at halftime to beat the Wildcats (8-12) in Rathdrum. The Tigers will play Priest River at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Kellogg will play Bonners Ferry at 6.

Idaho 1A Division II

Mullan 48, Kootenai 27: Nicole Axtman notched 19 points to lead all scorers and the Tigers (4-11) outscored the host Warriors (1-16) 28-17 in the second half to pull away for the win in Harrison. The Tigers will advance to play Clark Fork at 6 p.m. Friday.
