Pratt wins all-around to lead Mead to state gymnastics

Struggling with illness, Mead’s Cadie Pratt finished the Greater Spokane League season with a lower-than-average score two weeks ago.

Pratt had no problems getting back to her usual self, scoring 36.9 points at University High to win the all-around title and leading the Mead gymnastics team to a first-place finish at 4A regionals, giving the Panthers an automatic berth to state Saturday.

Pratt won the uneven bars and floor exercise with scores of 9.35 and 9.7, respectively, and finished second in the vault (9.2) as the Panthers scored 169.275 points to edge out Union (162.425 points). Ferris finished third with 155.95 points and Central Valley was fifth with 150.275.

Lewis and Clark’s Lily Hoch finished second in the all-around. Hoch scored a 9.325 to finish second in the bars and added a third-place finish in the vault with a score of 9.15.

Shelby Kanter scored a meet-best 9.075 in the balance beam to take first place for Ferris. CV’s Lauren Speers was third with a score of 8.9.

The Panthers will advance as the lone team from their regional to the state meet, Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
