Preps roundup: Eagles slip past Bantams in GNL

Shaniqua Nilles had 16 points and Torrey Finn added 13 points as West Valley (7-1, 1-0) started out its Great Northern League season with a 52-46 victory over Clarkston (5-3, 0-1) Tuesday in Clarkston.

Jamie Weisner finished with 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bantams. Clarkston couldn’t overcome an eight-point halftime deficit after the Eagles held them to just 16 points in the opening half.

Medical Lake 45, Deer Park 41: Amelia Cook led all scorers with 22 points, doing most of her damage in the second half to lead the Cardinals (5-4, 1-0) past the visiting Stags (4-5, 0-1). Kimmie Brazington had 11 points to lead the Stags, who led at halftime but couldn’t hold on after the break.

East Valley 58, Pullman 51 (OT): Amber Swyers tallied 13 points, 12 rebounds and three steals and the host Knights (5-4, 1-0) outscored the Greyhounds (2-6, 0-1) 8-1 in overtime to pick up the win. Alicia Christensen added 14 points for the Knights.

Colville 53, Newport 50: Ashley Knight tallied 13 points, Tasha Luu finished with 10 points and the Indians (9-0, 1-0) used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to take the lead for good against the visiting Grizzlies (9-2, 0-1). Taylor Lewis had a game-high 20 points to lead the Grizzlies.

Lakeside 63, Riverside 29: Lexie Zappone had 20 points, Taylor Flemming added 11 points and the Eagles (7-3, 1-0) earned their first league win by holding the host Rams (3-7, 0-1) to just 11 points in the first half, building a 27-point lead at the break.

Freeman 57, Chewelah 23: MacKenzie Taylor had 16 points and Alyssa Maine added 10 points as the visiting Scotties (10-1, 1-0) held the Cougars (3-8, 0-1) to eight points in the first half, closing the half with a 15-2 run in the second quarter.

Bi-County

Reardan 51, Colfax 32: Kelsey Moos scored 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and six assists and Chantel Heath added 15 points and nine assists as the Indians (8-2, 6-0) knocked off the visiting Bulldogs (2-5, 2-1) to become the only unbeaten team in league play.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40, Liberty 32: Heather Whitmore scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds for the host Broncos (5-3, 3-1), who went on a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter to upend the Lancers (2-7, 1-4).

Panorama

Columbia 64, Cusick 29: Krista Colvin had 19 points and Elizabeth Larew had 14 as the visiting Lions (11-0, 4-0) forced 23 turnovers to handle the Panthers (1-5, 0-2). Lindsay Loe had 11 points for the Lions, who finished with four players with double-digit points.

Nonleague

Davenport 45, Odessa-Harrington 41: Miranda Mielke had 14 points and five rebounds, Amanda Zeller added seven points and 14 rebounds and the Gorillas (1-6) held off the visiting Titans (3-6). The Gorillas trailed by three at the half, but outscored OH 27-20 in the second half to earn the win.

Wilbur-Creston 48, Inchelium 41: Alex Potts and Maggie Douglas combined for 31 points and the Wildcats (4-3) knocked off the host Hornets (0-5). Jade Sergeant led the Hornets with 15 points and eight assists and Arleasha Andrews added 14 points.

Kettle Falls 65, Curlew 36: Samantha Charlton led three Bulldogs (5-4) in double figures with 20 points and visiting KF used a 28-14 edge in the second half to put away the Cougars (4-4). Chanel Somday had 10 points for the Cougars. Alexys Hall scored 11 for KF.

St. John-Endicott 53, Wellpinit 42: Alli Winters had 15 points and Gretchen Van Lith chipped in 14 points as the visiting Eagles improved to 8-0 with their win over the Redskins (5-5). Sami Jo Parr had 14 points to lead the Redskins.

Garfield-Palouse 57, Potlatch 23: Kaycie Adair led all scorers with 25 points and added five rebounds and five assists and the Vikings (3-5) shot 52 percent from the floor to defeat the host Loggers (0-6). GP held the Loggers to 21-percent shooting from the field.

Valley Christian 56, Northport 14: Nicole Westberg had 11 points and five rebounds and the host Panthers (4-5) shot 47 percent from the field in their win over the Mustangs.

Colton 70, Grangeville 54: The host Wildcats (7-1) avenged an earlier loss to the Bulldogs (6-4), getting 26 points from Haley Moser on six 3-pointers and 19 points and nine rebounds from McKenzie Heaslet.

Selkirk 74, LV Rogers (B.C.) 39: Jaimi Adams finished with 18 points and Courtney Holter scored all 10 of her points in a first quarter that gave the host Rangers (8-2) a 23-9 lead over the Bombers in Ione.

Caribou Trail

Lake Roosevelt 68, Liberty Bell 32: Boweena Antone and Dominique Pleasants combined for 29 points and the Raiders (3-5, 1-0) breezed past the visiting Mountain Lions (1-6, 1-2).

Lewiston 41, Coeur d’Alene 33: Savannah Blinn had 12 points and the host Bengals (9-2, 2-0) held the Vikings (8-4, 1-2) to one point in the first quarter.
