Holiday affects most public offices, banks

Here is what’s open and closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday:

Public agencies: Federal, state, county and city offices, schools and courts will be closed. This includes SCRAPS, the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. The Spokane City Council briefing session and legislative meeting will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively in the Council Chambers.

Mail: Post office branches will be closed, and mail will not be delivered.

Libraries: Spokane Public Library branches and the Coeur d’Alene Public Library are closed.

Garbage pickup: Garbage and recycling collection will be on normal schedules in Spokane and Kootenai counties. The Waste-to-Energy Plant and transfer stations in Spokane and Kootenai counties will be open.

Liquor stores: State-run liquor stores in Washington and Idaho will be open regular hours.

Banks: Most banks will be closed.

Parking: Meters do not have to be fed in Spokane.

Riverfront Park: The Ice Palace, Imax Theater, Spokane Falls Skyride and Looff Carrousel will be open.
