It took almost everything UCLA could muster to hold on for a win in overtime against Arizona State on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.

Five UCLA players scored in double digits, with two of them earning double-doubles, as the Bruins managed to eke out a 73-72 victory.

“Every win is hard fought,” UCLA coach Ben Howland said. “Every win you get in the Pac-10 is a great win. Other than making some fouls – and we missed a couple of foul shots there – it’s all good.”

Lazeric Jones led the Bruins in scoring with 18 points while Malcolm Lee added 12 and Joshua Smith 10. Reeves Nelson finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Tyler Honeycutt added 12 points and 10 rebounds for UCLA.

Honeycutt made two important free throws with 46 seconds left in overtime that gave the Bruins a five-point lead.

UCLA outlasted the Sun Devils in the extra session 12-11 after opening it with a 9-2 run.

“We did a good job offensively. We shared the ball,” Howland said. “We made big shots in that overtime.”

It was Arizona State’s seventh straight conference loss.

Trent Lockett led the Sun Devils with 17 points and Rihards Kuksiks added 15 as Arizona State came back from a miserable first half of shooting.

Arizona 82, Southern Cal 73: Derrick Williams scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half and made all six of his shot attempts despite a heavy wrap on his shooting hand, helping the Wildcats past the Trojans in Tucson, Ariz.

Williams had his right pinky buried in a layer of gauze after banging it against UCLA on Thursday and fought foul trouble early in both halves. Nothing seemed to bother the sophomore star, who hit all three of his 3-point attempts and was 5 for 8 on free throws.

Lamont Jones added 17 points and Arizona shot 61 percent for its best start since 2004-05.

USC never had much of a chance to complete its first road sweep of the Arizona schools in 26 years, struggling to stop the Wildcats while falling behind by 20. Nikola Vucevic had 18 points and Donte Smith added 14 for the Trojans.

California 85, Oregon 77: Markhuri Sanders-Frison and Allen Crabbe scored 18 points apiece to help the Golden Bears win their third straight Pac-10 game and deny the Ducks a rare Bay Area sweep with a victory in Berkeley, Calif.

Jorge Gutierrez added 17 points despite a 2-for-11 shooting performance, and Harper Kamp scored 13 for the Golden Bears.

The Ducks, fresh off their first win at Stanford in 25 years, were looking to pull off their first sweep in the Bay Area since February 1976.

They got 22 points from Joevan Catron, 16 from Malcolm Armstead and 14 from Tyrone Nared, but were unable to pull off the trick, losing for the 10th time in their last 11 trips to Haas Pavilion.

Stanford 70, Oregon State 56: Freshman Anthony Brown scored a season-high 21 points, helping the Cardinal avoid their longest losing streak in 18 years in beating the Beavers in Stanford, Calif.

Josh Owens added 14 points for the Cardinal, who ended a four-game losing streak, matching its longest slide since a five-game streak in 1993.

Freshman Ahmad Starks scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Beavers, who lost their sixth straight road game. Jared Cunningham, OSU’s leading scorer, was held to a season-low one point before fouling out.
