Earned Marquette is rewarding men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams with a new contract after he led the Golden Eagles on their longest NCAA tournament run since 2003. The school said Wednesday it has finalized a new deal with Williams, who led Marquette on a surprising run to the round of 16 before they were beaten by North Carolina.

Staying Purdue men’s basketball coach Matt Painter is staying with the Boilermakers after talking with Missouri about its coaching vacancy. Purdue announced that it has agreed to an eight-year contract with Painter through the 2018-19 season. Terms were not disclosed.

Introduced Louisiana Tech formally introduced Michael White as its new men’s basketball coach. The 34-year-old White earned his reputation as a strong recruiter in the South during his seven seasons as an assistant at Mississippi.

Done UC Davis men’s basketball coach Gary Stewart is stepping down after eight seasons with the Aggies. Athletic director Greg Warzecka announced that Stewart will become a special projects administrator in the athletic department.

Rejected A jury has rejected Elgin Baylor’s claim of age discrimination and harassment, giving the Los Angeles Clippers a major victory against their former general manager. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury declined to award Baylor any damages. He claimed he was forced out of the job he held for 22 years. The Clippers had contended that Baylor left the team on his own.

Denied A judge denied bond for Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly following his latest drug arrest in Houston. The decision means Jolly will remain jailed until at least his next court appearance on April 20.

Surrendered Police in a Dallas suburb say Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib has turned himself in on a warrant accusing him of firing a gun at his sister’s boyfriend. Garland, Texas, police said Talib was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

Died Former Notre Dame star receiver Jim Seymour, who in the 1960s formed a potent passing combination with quarterback Terry Hanratty and helped the Fighting Irish win a national championship, has died. He was 64.
