Sizemore activated

Grady Sizemore is ready to give 100 percent effort to the Cleveland Indians’ pennant chase.

The three-time All-Star outfielder was activated from the disabled list Monday in time for the second-place Indians’ most important series of the season – a three-game home set against the first-place Detroit Tigers.

Sizemore had abdominal surgery July 21.

Beckett leaves with sprained ankle

Boston right-hander Josh Beckett left in the fourth inning of the Red Sox game against Toronto on Monday with a sprained right ankle.

Manager Terry Francona and trainer Mike Reinold came to the mound after Beckett threw a ball to Toronto third baseman Brett Lawrie. After a brief discussion, Beckett walked off the field without assistance and was replaced by right-hander Alfredo Aceves.

Marlins’ Johnson throws off mound

Florida Marlins right-hander Josh Johnson threw off a mound for the first time in more than two months.

Johnson was placed on the disabled list on May 21 with right shoulder inflammationawere for him to throw again Wednesday and Saturday.

Clearing the bases

New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis took part in pregame drills as he and the team try to determine if surgery will be required to repair his sprained and bruised left ankle. Also, Mets left-hander Johan Santana was scheduled to throw in the bullpen today before pitching in a minor league game on Friday. … The Colorado Rockies recalled right-hander Greg Reynolds and left-hander J.C. Romero from Triple-A Colorado Springs. … The Toronto Blue Jays activated right-hander Dustin McGowan off the 60-day disabled list before their home game against the Boston Red Sox.
