Highs to stay in record territory

Temperatures at or near record levels will continue again today as high air pressue keeps the Inland Northwest sizzling. A high of 92 at Spokane International Airport on Thursday was just one degree short of the record in Spokane. A high of 93 is expected at the airport today, which would tie the record for the day. Sunny skies are expected in coming days as summer hangs into September. Highs in the middle 90s should continue in Spokane through Sunday before the higher air pressure starts to relax and temperatures begin to moderate by several degrees each day. On Thursday, the highs may fall back to a more seasonable level in the upper 70s. Temperatures will be similar in Coeur d’Alene. High temperature records were set on Thursday in Moses Lake and Lind, both at 98, and Ephrata at 97. Pullman tied its record at 94. So did Omak at 96. At 7 a.m., it was 63 at the Spokane airport, 54 at Felts Field and 55 in Coeur d’Alene. Air quality has deteriorated this morning to the upper end of the good range with Spokane Regional Air Agency forecasting it to go to the moderately polluted category today. Fine particles of dust and smoke from regional fires are to blame.
