Top model contest puts focus on fashion

Local fashionistas are expected to descend on the Knitting Factory on Saturday for Spokane’s Top Model contest.

“It’s similar to ‘America’s Top Model,’ and we are affiliated with Seattle Fashion Week. Our winners go to Seattle to walk in the fashion week there,” said Kris Kilduff, who promotes the show. “We have 40 contestants on Saturday, and they are paired up with eight local salons and eight fashion boutiques.”

More than 100 model hopefuls tried out, and the 40 finalists already did a photo shoot. The audience can see those photos as part of Saturday’s show.

Among participating salons and boutiques are Jaazz Salon, Veda Lux Boutique, Fringe and Finders Keepers.

A panel of judges associated with Seattle Fashion Week will pick the top three models. Members of the audience also get to vote via text messaging at the show, picking the best model, salon and fashion boutique.

“If you are interested in fashion in the slightest you should be there,” Kildruff said. “We had 1,400 people at our first event last year. It sold out.”
