Pullman police cite Cougar football player Waseem

PULLMAN – Pullman Police cited Washington State cornerback Spencer Waseem with fourth-degree misdemeanor assault on Wednesday after alleging that Waseem punched a man outside a home near Stadium Way over the weekend.

A WSU spokesman said coaches are aware of the situation.

A 21-year-old man was at his residence on Duncan Lane early Sunday when he heard an altercation outside, Cmdr. Chris Tennant said. Upon going outside, the man said he was punched by another man, who police believe to be Waseem.

The alleged victim called police at about 1:43 a.m. Sunday and received stitches at Pullman Regional Hospital to close a wound on his lip, Tennant said.

After interviewing witnesses and others involved, police issued the citation to Waseem, 19, on Wednesday at about 3 p.m.

Waseem admitted to being in the area when the assault allegedly occurred but says “it wasn’t him” who struck the alleged victim, Tennant said.

Waseem, a redshirt freshman from Apopka, Fla., hasn’t practiced yet this spring because of an injury. Waseem’s citation comes after freshman offensive lineman Denzell Dotson was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of DUI.
