HOLL, Michael Glen

Michael “Mike” Holl passed away on June 29, 2012 of melanoma at the age of 63.

Mike is survived by his wife, Nancy Holl, and sons Eric Holl and Alan Holl, all of Bellingham, WA.

Also surviving Mike are sisters and brothers-in-law Rita (Ron) Mickelson of Spokane and Sandi (Kirk) Wise of Seattle.

He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

Mike was survived by his father, Elmer Holl, of Spokane, who has since passed away on July 17.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Rhoda Holl.
Mike was born in Spokane, WA and graduated from University High School.

Mike had been a ham radio operator since age 11.

He served as radio technician with the Navy during the Vietnam War, and later graduated with honors from EWU.

He then worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on ships to Europe and South America.

His longest employment was at sea with ETC, NY as the Radio Electronics Officer on a liquefied natural gas tanker between ports in Japan and Indonesia.

Mike learned to fly in 1975 and was a certified flight instructor for 12 years for instrument, single-engine, multi-engine, commercial and seaplane training.

He taught many students to comfortably fly over the waters of Puget Sound and was a member of the Chuckanut Flying Club.
Mike was an avid cyclist who completed the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic 11 times.

He enjoyed traveling, including to New Zealand plus trips with his father to England and Denmark and on the Alaskan ferry.

He volunteered for the Lake Samish Fire Department, the local radio and electricity museum, Maritime Ministry, and in various capacities through his church.

Mike’s final words were “I’ve had a good life.


A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Bellingham on Saturday, August 4, at 11 am.
