Mead Panthers win despite slow start
The Mead Panthers overcame an early deficit to beat Lake Stevens 54-48 at The Fitz boys basketball tournament Friday night at Lewis and Clark HS.
Lake Stevens jumped out to a 23-11 first-quarter advantage, but Mead (1-0) chipped away throughout the next three quarters to gain control.
Gunnar Kayser scored six of his game-high 12 points in the fourth. Kayser and Thomas Kautzman made two free throws apiece late in the game to seal the win.
Lewis and Clark 63, Peninsula 44: Dean Richey scored a game-high 17 points and the Tigers (1-0) pulled away in the third quarter and beat Peninsula at The Fitz. Connor Hojnacki added 12 points for the Tigers.
Richland 59, Gonzaga Prep 54: The Bombers erased a 10-point deficit heading into the fourth and beat the visiting Bullpups (0-1). Ryan Alexander made four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points for G-Prep.
Mt. Spokane 76, East Valley 71: Stu Stiles scored 26 points and Jordan Weems added 18 as the Wildcats (1-0) edged the host Knights (0-1). Stiles made four 3-pointers and 8 of 11 free throws. James Brown tallied a game-high 29 points for EV.
Ferris 66, Chiawana 41: Jensen Rye led all scorers with 15 to lead the Saxons to the win.
Rogers 76, Cheney 55: Amaujae Daniels hit seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 40 points to lead the Pirates (1-0) past the visiting Blackhawks (1-1). Carson Murray added 14 points for Rogers. Austin Harding led Cheney with 14.
Shadle Park 72, Kennewick 62: George Pilimai made 12 of 20 shots and finished with a game-high 28 points as the Highlanders (1-1) topped the visiting Lions.
Ellensburg 57, Pullman 51: The Bulldogs gained control in the first half and held off the Greyhounds’ second-half rally in a win at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic in Yakima. Corey Langerveld made 11 of 19 shots and finished with a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds for Pullman (0-1).
Medical Lake 47, Deer Park 45: Adam Paulson scored 15 points as the Cardinals (1-0) edged the visiting Stags (0-2).
Kettle Falls 59, Oroville 42: Nathan Disque scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the decisive third quarter as the Bulldogs (1-0) beat the host Hornets.
Colfax 67, St. John-Endicott 58: Brandon Gfeller scored 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the defending 2B champion Bulldogs (1-0) defeated the host Eagles (0-1).
St. George’s 66, Newport 34: Dexter Sienko, in his first game back after suffering a broken leg early last season, made 9 of 13 shots and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Dragons (1-0) past the Grizzlies (1-1). Newport was led by Ryan Rapp’s 14 points.
Curlew 59, St. Michael’s 47: Aaron McCullough scored 20 points and Doug Merrmonn added 17 as the Cougars (1-0) beat the host Warriors (0-1). Gabe Durazo tallied a game-high 31 points for St. Michael’s.
Davenport 54, ACH 36: Josh Likkel and Shane Hopkins combined for 33 points to lead the Gorillas (2-0) past the visiting Warriors (0-1).
Wellpinit 69, Springdale 34: A.J. Kieffer scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Redskins (1-0) past the visiting Chargers (0-2). Brody Ford added nine points and nine rebounds for Wellpinit, which opened the game on a 24-7 run. Kyle Cummings tallied a team-high 10 points for Springdale.
Wilbur-Creston 60, Bridgeport 26: Colton Magers scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in the first half as the Wildcats (1-0) got out fast and cruised past the Mustangs in Creston. Garret Townsend added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Wilbur-Creston, which had lost its last nine games dating to last season.
Odessa-Harrington 61, Republic 31: Cade Weber scored 20 points and Justin Hunt added 16 as the Titans (1-0) routed the visiting Tigers (0-1).
Valley Christian 53, Northport 39: Nick Cox led three players in double figures with 12 points as the Panthers (1-0) beat the visiting Mustangs (0-1). Jeremiah Johnson scored 14 for Northport.
Kellogg 64, Orofino 49: Garrett Wendt exploded for a game-high 27 points and added nine rebounds and four steals as the Wildcats (2-0) beat the Maniacs (0-1) at the Silver Valley Tournament in Wallace. Jesse Lambert added 12 points and Logan Saeur 11 for Kellogg.
Wallace 67, Mullan 19: Also at the Silver Valley Tournament in Wallace, Brock Arthun scored 21 points as the Miners (1-0) gained control from the outset and raced past the Tigers (0-1). Jake Dellinger had 11 points and Gavin Rasmussen chipped in 10 for Wallace.
