Give WSU football recruits a chance
The article concerning the Cougars’ new recruiting class (“Recruiting a dirty process …,” Feb. 1) was amazing to read.
This new recruiting class was being put down before (correspondent) John Blanchette had met a single one of the recruits who had signed a letter of intent to play football for the Cougars.
Apparently, not only had Blanchette not met any of these signees, but he had not talked to a single coach about this class. Rather, it was all about star ratings.
What was even more disappointing was that this advance criticism of these young people came the morning of the letter of intent date. It must have been seriously disappointing for those who signed with WSU to read that some local “authority” had already prejudged this entire group.
Wouldn’t it be more fair to at least give these new recruits a few snaps of spring practice before disparaging their qualities or the coaches that recruited them? This new staff had only two months to get on the recruiting trail and start to build for next year’s Cougars football. We should applaud them and fill the seats and not start the year by castigating the class before the first practice.
