Pedestrian dies after being hit by two vehicles in Airway Heights

From staff and wire reports
A man crossing Hayford Road in Airway Heights this morning was hit by two vehicles and killed, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office reported. The man, whose name was not released, was walking across Hayford Road near 9th Avenue around 6:30 a.m. The man was hit by an SUV traveling south, said sheriff’s Deputy Craig Chamberlin. Another car coming behind the SUV also hit the man. The Associated Press reported that the victim was a man in his 50s with a disability who was crossing the road to get to a bus stop. Witnesses said the SUV that struck him was speeding. Hayford Road north of the Northern Quest Casino will be closed until at least 10 a.m., Chamberlin said. The sheriff’s office does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, but the roads were icy this morning. It’s too early to say whether charges will be filed, Chamberlin said.
