A chamber music concert of works by Henry Purcell, Heinrich Biber, Andrea Gabrieli, J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart will kick off the 34th annual Northwest Bach Festival on Tuesday.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in St. John’s Cathedral, 127 E. 12th Ave. Music historian Jane Ellsworth of Eastern Washington University will give a preconcert talk beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Featured performers will be Yuri Namkung, violin; Keith Thomas, oboe; Bruce Bodden, flute; and an ensemble of 20 other players. Gunther Schuller again is serving as the festival’s artistic director.

General admission tickets are $20 ($10 for students). Tickets for this and all concerts are available through TicketsWest, (800) 325-SEAT or www.ticketswest.com, or at the Spokane Arena box office, 720 W. Mallon Ave.

Upcoming festival concerts are at 8 p.m. Saturday, 8 p.m. March 10, 8 p.m. March 16 and 3 p.m. March 18. For details, visit www.nwbachfest.com. Look for a preview of the upcoming concerts in Friday’s Today section.

In the ‘House’

Fox may have pulled the plug on TV’s crankiest doctor, but that’s not keeping “House” star Hugh Laurie down. The British actor-comedian-musician last year released an album of New Orleans blues called “Let Them Talk.” Now he’s taking the show on the road, with a stop planned June 2 at Spokane’s Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. He’ll be supported by the Copper Bottom Band.

Tickets, which range from $35 to $45, will go on sale Wednesday through the Fox ticket office, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., or (509) 624-1200, or TicketsWest outlets, (800) 325-SEAT or www.ticketswest.com.

Speaking of the Fox

Thursday, for one day only, the Spokane Symphony will offer 50 percent off tickets for four upcoming shows: “Mozart’s Facebook” March 9, “Broadway’s Greatest Gifts” March 17, “Russian Drama” March 24-25, and “Opera’s Greatest Hits” March 30. The ticket sale will be run through the box office at the Fox.

Coming to Airway Heights

Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights has recently announced three new shows for the spring: Eric Burdon & The Animals on April 14, Englebert Humperdinck on April 29 and B.B. King on May 5. Tickets for Burdon are on sale through the Northern Quest website, www.northernquest.com, for $27.50 to $37.50. Tickets for Humperdinck, at $57.50 and $67.50, go on sale Wednesday. Tickets for the King show are on sale March 5; prices have not yet been announced.

Ladies night

These seven women have very different stories. They are a housewife, a college student, a grandmother, an abuse victim, a cancer survivor, a mistress and a hustler.

These women take the stage in “Emerge: 7 Women, 7 Stools” and share those stories, a production that lands at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The play, directed by Delilah Rashell, who has worked with Tyler Perry, features an ethnically diverse cast telling their characters’ stories in monologue. “Emerge” was co-written by Rashell and Lady Kitty Griffin, who portrays her own story as an abused woman.

Tickets are $32 and $37 and available through TicketsWest, (800) 325-SEAT or online at www.ticketswest.com. For more information on the play, visit www.emergetheplay.com.
