Residents escape from burning house

Spokane firefighters responded to a house fire in Northeast Spokane at 7:33 this morning. Heavy smoke was showing from the second floor of a single-family home in the 800 block of East Cascade Place when firefighters arrived, but the two occupants and a dog had escaped. Flames were contained to the second floor and 18 firefighters working the fire extinguished it within an hour. One female was treated by the fire department paramedics and transported to a hospital for complications of smoke inhalation. The home did not have a working fire detector. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
