Spokane Indians drop fifth straight NWL game

PASCO – The Tri-City Dust Devils and the Spokane Indians are teams seemingly streaking in different directions.

The Dust Devils held on for a 4-3 Northwest League win Monday at Gesa Stadium for their fourth consecutive win while the Indians suffered a fifth straight setback.

NWL teams take tonight off since Major League Baseball has its annual All-Star Game.

It’s the lone day off for NWL teams all season.

Spokane (8-17) pulled within 4-3 in the eighth. Christopher Garia singled and scored on a single by former Gonzaga University catcher Royce Bolinger.

The Dust Devils (13-12) broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth. Kyle Von Tungein had a run-scoring double and Rosell Herrera knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Tri-City opened a 2-0 lead in the first after Spokane went down 1-2-3 in the top of the inning.

Miguel De Leon accounted for the runs with a homer for Tri-City.

Spokane scored its first run in the third when Guy Edmonds, who reached on a double, scored on a Garia single.

The Indians pulled even at 2-2 in the fourth. Bolinger doubled and Barrett Serrato scored on Bolinger’s single.

Garia and Bolinger each had two of Spokane’s six hits. Von Tungein led T-C with two hits.

Abel De Los Santos (3-2) started for Spokane, going 51/3 innings. He allowed six hits, four earned runs and struck out four.

T-C starter Shane Boyles (2-0) went five innings, striking out seven and allowing two runs.
