Texas was the last team in the majors to make a roster move this season, going more than six weeks before having to use the disabled list.

In the last five weeks, the A.L. West-leading Rangers have averaged about a pitcher a week going down.

Right-hander Colby Lewis went down on Tuesday, going on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right forearm. He is the third starter from the opening-day rotation out of the lineup, along with a reliever and another pitcher hurt in his first start of the season after moving from the bullpen.

Though the move is retroactive to Sunday, the earliest Lewis will be able to pitch again for the Rangers is after the All-Star break. An MRI exam showed no other issues, and he had a cortisone shot.

Texas filled Lewis’ roster spot when left-handed prospect Martin Perez was promoted from Triple-A Round Rock. Perez, 21, is the team’s top pitching prospect and in the majors for the first time. He pitched for the Northwest League Spokane Indians in 2008.

Left-handed starter Derek Holland (shoulder fatigue) is set for the first of at least two rehab starts at Round Rock tonight. Neftali Feliz (right elbow inflammation) and Alexi Ogando (right groin strain) both threw from 90 feet Tuesday.

Jays sign Moyer

Jamie Moyer may not be finished quite yet.

The Toronto Blue Jays signed the 49-year-old left-hander to a minor league deal, giving the oldest pitcher to win a game in the big leagues another shot. The Blue Jays say Moyer will make two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas, then Toronto will decide whether to bring him back to the majors.

Clearing the bases

Boston right-hander Clay Buchholz experienced erosion of his esophagus, and the condition caused internal bleeding. The team says he is doing well and is expected to make a complete recovery. … Houston placed outfielder Justin Maxwell on the 15-day disabled list with an injured left ankle. Maxwell has eight homers and 24 RBIs. The Astros also reinstated outfielder Travis Buck (Richland High) from the 15-day DL and designated him for assignment. … Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft, will make his debut for Arizona on Thursday against Atlanta. Bauer, a right-hander and former UCLA standout, will be called up from Triple-A Reno and join the team today.
