Man arrested for child luring in north Spokane

Police say a man tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into a motor home in the parking lot of a north Spokane store on Thursday. John L. Seyler, 27, was ordered to stay in jail on $25,000 bail after appearing in Spokane County Superior Court today on a felony charge of child luring. The boy ran into the Fred Meyer at 525 E. Francis Ave. breathless and scared about 1:40 p.m. and told an employee a man in a motor home had yelled “we’re going to the park, get in the car,” police said in court documents filed today. The boy said he stopped briefly and heard others in the motor home yell, “Tell him we have…candy; you should have told him we have candy.” He said the man opened the driver’s side door and started to get out, so he ran as fast as could into the store. He also called his father. Officers contacted the motor home, which was made in 1975, and identified Seyler as the suspect. Store security said they had video of the incident would provide a copy to police. Police say Seyler lied when he was arrested and gave them his brother’s name. Spokane County Jail staff learned his true name while he was being booked.
