Spokane Valley teen faces gun charge

A University High School student was booked into Spokane County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm after a search of his home resulted in the seizure of two guns, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses told authorities Benjamin Washington, 18, displayed the weapon in a threatening manner following a fight near the school, said Craig Chamberlin, a sheriff’s office spokesman. “Due to the nature of the threat, the Spokane Violent Crime Gang Enforcement Team was requested to assist in the investigation,” Chamberlin said. Washington’s home near the 900 block of North Perry Street was searched midnight Thursday. Officers found two weapons. The investigation continues as other charges may be included.
