Resident Laments Dog Park Loss

In her draft minutes from Coeur d’Alene City Council, deputy City Clerk Renata McLeod records:

“Bob Knechtel;  3087 W. Wilbur Avenue:  Representing the Kootenai County Dog Park Association,  expressed concern regarding the sale of the School District property at Atlas Avenue where the Central Bark Dog Park is located. The Association did not received any advance notice from the School District of the potential sale; however, he understands that their three year agreement with the District has expired.  Mr. Knechtel requested the City to help preserve the dog park and/or request an additional 60 days for time to seek solutions for the dog park. Ms. Gabriel stated that the School District has the property listed for sale, and noted that sealed bids are due on Nov. 15.   Mr. Knechtel stated that the planned McEuen dog park is not large enough to be an exchange for the loss of the Northshire Park.” (Kathy Plonka’s SR file photo of Central Bark) More in drop-down box below.

Question: Should the city of Coeur d’Alene look to replace the Central Bark dog park at Northshire that’s being lost to the public as a result of the Coeur d’Alene School Board’s decision to sell acreage on which it sits?

Mr. Gridley stated that there have been recent discussions with Bureau of Land Management regarding property north of the 95 bridge, and that Mr. Knechtel should contact Parks Director, Doug Eastwood, to discuss potential options.  Councilman Kennedy stated he would bring this item forward at the November 19, 2012 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
