Cougars’ departures

In addition to a number of walk-on players, 19 players on scholarship with eligibility still remaining have departed the WSU football program since the end of last season. The reasons vary.

Dismissed

LB C.J. Mizell (Jr.) – Dismissed Feb. 7 after arrest on fourth-degree assault charge outside fraternity party.

LB Sekope Kaufusi (Jr.) – Dismissed March 2 after arrest on marijuana possession charge.

DT Anthony Laurenzi (RS-Sr.) – Dismissed July 26 after arrest on theft charge.

DT T.J. Poloai (RS-Fr.) – Dismissed in January for undisclosed violation of team rules.

Quit

(Some of these players may transfer, but their intentions have not been announced)

S Matthew Simmons (RS-So.) – Scout-team player who left midway through 2012 season.

S/RB Tyrone Duckett (RS-So.) – Scout-team player who bounced between offense and defense before leaving midway through 2012 season.

CB Spencer Waseem (RS-So.) – Suffered ACL injury in 2011 and didn’t return to practice until after school started in the fall. Left midway through 2012 season after practicing briefly on scout team.

OL Dan Spitz (RS-Sr.) – Started first two games before missing weeks of practice with undisclosed personal issue. Returned for one practice, then left the team shortly after.

DL Lenard Williams (Sr.) – Left team after 2012 season started. Was not part of defensive line rotation.

WR Marquess Wilson (Jr.) – Left after playing nine games and alleging abuse by coaching staff.

Transferred

LB Ian Knight (RS-Jr.) – Transferred to Virginia University of Lynchburg after coaches told him he wasn’t likely to play this season.

TE Aaron Dunn (RS-So.) – After practicing briefly in the spring, transferred to play basketball at Western Washington.

WR Blair Bomber (RS-So.) – Announced he will transfer to Eastern Washington after falling behind several other players on the depth chart.

DE Jordan Pu’u Robinson (RS-Jr.) – Transferred to Hawaii after spring semester to be closer to family.

Injured/graduated

LB Louis Bland (RS-Sr.) – Gave up football after career marred by knee injuries, brushes with law enforcement.

DE/TE Skylar Stormo (RS-Sr.) – Forced to retire from football after weight-lifting accident prior to spring practices.

OL Alex Reitnouer (RS-So.) – Missed entire 2011 season due to injury and left before spring practices started.

S Max Gama (RS-Fr.) – Hand injury kept him out of practices as redshirt in 2011. Was sidelined with injury during spring practices in 2012 and left team before summer workouts.

S Kyle McCartney (RS-Sr.) – Came to WSU as a walk-on but was on scholarship during 2011 season. Decided not to play fifth year in 2012 after graduating.
