Obituary: Stiltz, Staff Sergeant Matthew Henrick
Age 26
He died from wounds incurred by indirect fire in Zerok, Afghanistan.
Matt was born August 5, 1986 in Spokane, WA.
He attended Shadle Park High School, Class of 2005.
Matt was interested in marketing and economics and was involved in the DECA Program.
He and teammate Jason Crosin went to the DECA national competition in Anaheim, CA where they placed 5th out of 71 teams.
Matt also played trumpet in the Shadle Park Pep Band.
After graduation, Matt joined the U.S. Army.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Div.
stationed at Fort Riley, Manhattan, Kansas.
He served two deployments in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
While stationed at Fort Riley, Matt met the love of his life, Brooke Keller and they were married June 19, 2009.
Although he had a serious nature, Matt was a child at heart and had a way of connecting with young children.
He was an immediate hit with Brooke’s seven brothers and sisters.
This same trait also helped him bond with the children in Iraq.
Matt is survived by his wife Brooke of Manhattan, KS; his parents Mark and Terri Stiltz of Spokane WA; his brother Jeff Stiltz, and his sister Kristin Stiltz, both also of Spokane, WA.
Matt was a dedicated soldier and placed his unit and his country number one.
He would want everyone to remember and support the troops still fighting for protection of our freedoms.
A graveside military tribute will take place 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane, WA.
A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Shiloh Hills Fellowship at 207 E. Lincoln Road in Spokane, WA.
