Obituary: Habbestad, Bernard Malvin

Age 87

HABBESTAD, Bernard Malvin (Age 87) Passed away November 10, 2012 at the Spokane Veterans Home.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN April 2, 1925 to John and Clara Habbestad.

He moved to Vashon Island, WA where he spent the remainder of his youth.

He joined the Army in 1943, immediately after high school graduation.

He served in the South Pacific during WWII and participated in operations on Letye and Okinawa as a crew member on an amphibious tractor.

He left the Army in February 1946.

Bernard graduated from Kinman Business University.

He married his wife Gertrude L. Westberg on June 11, 1948.

He worked for Finucane & Galland before starting his own business as a CPA in Spokane and Wilbur, WA.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting, sports and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gertrude; daughter Kathryn; sons Russell and Roger (twins), Gordon and Steve; siblings John, Clarence, David, Alvin, Alice, Sharon and Sylvia (twins); numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister June.

He has been a member of First Covenant Church since 1947.

Funeral Service 1PM Saturday December 1, 2012 at First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division St. Spokane.
