Photo: Holiday delights at Manito

Above, visitors enjoy the 2009 Holiday Lights events at Manito Park’s Gaiser Conservatory. This year’s event will be Dec. 7 through 19. The conservatory will be decorated with more than 30,000 lights, illuminating the vast plant collection in the greenhouse. The event is free, but donations are accepted. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. On Dec. 8 and 9, the Friends of Manito will hold an open house in the Manito Park meeting room just east of the conservatory from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. both days. During the open house, children can decorate cookies and there will be refreshments. Holiday poinsettias will be on sale with proceeds going to the Friends of Manito.
