Titans trip Lake City after time runs out

Brett Bailey scored 28 points, including two free throws with no time left on the clock, as University opened its boys basketball season Wednesday with a 66-65 nonleague win at Lake City.

Riley Moreen’s three-point play with 4 seconds left gave the Timberwolves (0-2) a 65-64 lead.

The Titans, who finished with eight 3-pointers, took a 46-41 lead with a 20-6 third quarter.

Joe Carrieres added 15 points and Michael Isotalo 11 for U-Hi.

Justin Pratt guided the Trojans with 18 points and eight assists. Kyle Guice had 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

Post Falls 49, Shadle Park 38: Corey Koski totaled 14 rebounds and 11 points to lift the host Trojans past the Highlanders in an opener for both.

Skyler Kelley hit three 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Shadle.

West Valley 86, North Central 50: Jake Love scored 11 of his 33 points in the second quarter and added 13 rebounds as the host Eagles defeated the Indians in an opener for both.

The Eagles hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter to break open a close game against NC, which played with a depleted roster because of injuries.

Tyler Stavnes added 19 points and Brady Bergman eight rebounds for WV. Jalen Woodard led NC with 13 points.

Girls basketball

West Valley 52, North Central 50: Sophomore Erin Higbie had 16 rebounds and 14 points while leading the host Eagles past the Indians in an opener for both.

Higbie finished 8 of 11 from the line. Aaliyah Ashley-Meek added six steals and five assists for the Eagles. NC’s Briana King led all players with 18 points.
