DFO: No Need To Wait For Spring
Patrons of the Coeur d’Alene School District received a second dose of what life will be like for the next 7-8 months under the largely appointed School Board. The decision to dump the Primary Years Programme at Hayden Meadows without careful study was rooted in ideology rather than what’s best for the School
District — despite warnings from Coeur d’Alene Tribal Chairman Chief Allan, human rights leader Marshal Mend, Jobs Plus exec Steve Griffitts and the Coeur d’Alene Press. Proponents of IB/PYP are frothing this morning re: retaliation at the ballot box against the three appointees who joined the unanimous majority in the 5-0 vote to dump PYP at the end of the 2012-13 season. Frustrated patrons need to realize that such an attempt will be harder that it appears now. Passions will cool. The highly effective Reagan Republican political machine will be operating overtime to protect the ideological hardliners they helped elect and appoint to office. Meanwhile, the Reagan Republicans are targeting the North Idaho College Board of Trustees for their next attempted take over of a nonpartisan board that has a significant impact on the Coeur d’Alene area. Three men are running with Reagan Republican endorsements for an open seat and against quality Trustees Mic Armon and Judy Meyer. Coeur d’Alene School District patrons shouldn’t wait until next May to express their frustration. The North Idaho College Board of Trustees election is the next ideological battlefield in the war for the Coeur d’Alene area’s soul. Then come the school board elections in May. And then the political battle royal will take place in November 2013 when the local consrvative hardliners go after Mayor Sandi Bloem and the three City Council members who survived a wrong-headed recall effort despite being part of most of the capital improvements along the waterfront —
