WSU’s Frame finishes tied for eighth

The Washington State men’s golf team shot a 1-over-par 289 on the final day and finished in ninth place at the Pac-12 Preview Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s Witch Hollow course in North Plains, Ore.

WSU’s Hank Frame shot an even-par 72 and finished tied for eighth at 5-under 211. Washington’s Trevor Simsby won the tournament at 11-under 205.

• Gonzaga struggled in the final round and finished 12th at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind.

Sean Walsh was the Bulldogs’ top finisher. Walsh tied for 28th with a 222.

Honors

Idaho football kicker Trey Farquhar was named the Star of the Week by the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, which is presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. Farquhar connected on field goals of 55, 53, 39 and 32 yards in the Vandals’ 26-18 win over New Mexico State on Oct. 6. … For the third time this season, Eastern Washington women’s soccer player Cassie Black was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Black scored her first career hat trick in the Eagles’ 4-1 win over North Dakota on Oct. 5. … Whitworth’s Lyle Rudnicki and Kyle Novak earned recognition from the Northwest Conference. Rudnicki, a golfer, was named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week after shooting two 69s and helping the Pirates win the Whitman Invitational. Novak, goalkeeper for the Whitworth men’s soccer team, was named the NWC defensive Student-Athlete of the Week after posting his conference-leading ninth shutout of the season.

Junior hockey

Four Beaver Valley players scored and the Nitehawks (6-1-1) beat the Spokane Braves (3-6-1) 4-1 in KIJHL action in Spokane.
