School levy ad is false

Lately, I’ve seen commercials attacking Rob McKenna for a tax swap proposal taking away our Levy and Equalization Act capability. Rob McKenna would not agree to this. These commercials are false and misleading.

I spoke with Rob McKenna personally, in Chewelah at the Chataqua Fair, and he does not support eroding the authority of rural school boards or a tax swap.

In January, Rep. Ross Hunter, D-Medina, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, came to Spokane to propose exactly the same thing McKenna is being accused of. Hunter wanted to replace the LEA with a standard $3.50 per $1,000 assessed value on property and have the money sent to Olympia with no guarantee it would be sent back to Eastern Washington. His proposal was defeated in the Legislature.

I’m a rural school board director and I know McKenna would not support anything of the kind shown in those commercials. I ask every one of you to vote for Rob McKenna for governor. That’s who I am voting for. Those commercials are false and misleading. Vote for Rob to ensure we maintain our LEA options and our rural school board authority.
