Mt. Spokane clinches tie for GSL girls soccer title

Forward Katie Nilsson dribbled past two defenders and scored at 65 minutes Wednesday to cap Mt. Spokane’s 2-0 win at Central Valley (10-2, 7-1) that assured the Wildcats (13-0, 8-0) of at least a share of the Greater Spokane League girls soccer title.

Mt. Spokane finishes its league season Friday against third-place University. CV finishes against Shadle Park.

Mt. Spokane scored first, at 44 minutes, as Alyssa Lloyd punched in Sydney Nelson’s corner kick.

Shannon McReynolds recorded the shutout for Mt. Spokane.

The Wildcats played three-fourths of the match down one player because of a red card.

Also in the GSL, Rylee Rassier scored off Sarah Melvin’s crossing pass at 73 minutes to give University (9-3, 6-2) a 1-0 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep (9-4, 5-3). Taylor Lang recorded the shutout for the Titans, who lost to G-Prep 4-0 earlier in the season in a nonleague game. G-Prep is tied for fourth place with Mead. … Alyssa Novak scored twice to guide Shadle Park (3-8, 2-6) to a 3-1 win over North Central (3-8, 2-6) at Albi Stadium. Myranda Willard scored Shadle’s first goal from 8 yards out, after a through ball from Cassie Berg. Willard set up Novak’s final goal at 74 minutes with a corner kick. … Anna Kessler scored twice to power Mead (8-3, 5-3) to a 5-0 win over visiting Ferris (5-7, 1-7). Kara Marbury and Maddie Aldrich added one goal and one assist apiece for the Panthers. Aldrich’s goal came from 25 yards out, hitting the upper-right corner after the Saxons’ defense tried to clear a corner kick. … Chloe Williams scored the first two goals and assisted on the final score as sixth-place Lewis and Clark (5-5, 4-4) rolled to a 6-0 win at Rogers (1-9, 0-9). LC’s Sarah Curran scored 4 minutes apart early in the second half.

Volleyball

Dani Failor finished with 10 kills and six blocks as visiting Post Falls outlasted Coeur d’Alene 3-2 in a 5A Region I loser-out match.

The Trojans will play for a state berth Saturday at Grangeville against a school from the Boise area.
