On September 12th, 2012, we lost our dear friend, Judy Ann Wooten.
Born in Buffalo, New York, she moved to Walla Walla with her father at a young age.
After graduating from Walla Walla High School, she enrolled at Washington State University.
She was extremely active as an undergraduate, a trait she would carry throughout her life.
She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and remained an active alumna after graduation.
Judy graduated from WSU with a degree in education and began a teaching career in the Central Valley School District that would last for over 44 years.
She was a tremendous coach and mentor to so many young people in the valley.
Her coaching included volleyball, softball and track and field - she was always cheering her students!
Judy was also involved with the Washington Education Association as a director, a vice-president of the WEA/Eastern Washington UniServe Council, as the WEA Board Representative for Central Valley School District and most recently as vice-president of the statewide WEA-Retired.
She was attending one of those meetings when she passed away.
Along with active membership in a number of professional affiliations, she also found time to work with Special Olympics students each Saturday during ski season for many years and brought many a smile on the slopes.
A lifetime member of the WSU Alumni Association, Judy was a dedicated Cougar fan who attended all home games and many away games.
She was a long time resident of Liberty Lake who collected as many friends as she did hats!
A special thank you goes to Dr. Hakan Kaya and the staff at Cancer Care Northwest for the wonderful care they gave to Judy during the last eight years.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held October 20th at 4:00 PM at Spokane Events and Catering, 10512 E. Sprague, Spokane Valley.
She will be laid to rest in Walla Walla next to her beloved father on October 27th with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s name to the American Cancer Society (Spokane Branch), SpokAnimal or SCRAPS.
