Mt. Spokane unbeaten GSL champ in girls soccer
Sierra Bezdicek and Alyssa Lloyd scored first-half goals and Mt. Spokane slid past host University 2-1 on Friday to complete a perfect Greater Spokane League girls soccer season at 9-0 (27 points).
Kelsey Walker scored in the 65th minute for University (6-3, 17 points).
The teams will play again Wednesday in the District 8 3A title match at Spokane Falls Community College, with the winner earning the top seed to regionals.
In other GSL matches, Kara Marbury scored in the 23rd minute and host Mead beat Gonzaga Prep 1-0. The win gave the Panthers (6-3, 18) sole possession of third place and a spot in the District 8 4A title game. They will play Central Valley on Tuesday at SFCC for the top seed to the 4A regional tournament. The Bullpups (5-4, 15) will play in a 4A loser-out match Tuesday at SFCC against Lewis and Clark. … Kasey Ames and Megan Dimmler scored two goals apiece as Central Valley dumped visiting Shadle Park 8-0. The Bears (8-1, 23) had already secured the top seed to the 4A district. The Highlanders (2-7, 6) will play North Central Wednesday at SFCC, with the winner earning the fourth seed to the 3A regionals. … Chloe Williams’ hat trick lifted Lewis and Clark (5-4, 16) to a 5-0 shutout of North Central (2-7, 5) at SFCC. Sarah Curran assisted on three of the Tigers’ five goals. … Ferris got scoring from four players in a 4-0 victory over visiting Rogers.
• Idaho State 4A: Julianna Renner’s goal wasn’t enough as Moscow fell 2-1 to Century in Idaho Falls. The Bears will play Twin Falls today for third place.
• Idaho State 3A: Bryndee Ryan scored twice to lead Fruitland to a 3-1 win over Timberlake in a loser-out match in Twin Falls. Ida Jansson scored the Tigers’ lone goal.
Boys soccer
Idaho State 4A: Jeremiah Gagnon had a goal and an assist as Sandpoint advanced to the championship match with a 2-0 win over Wood River at Idaho Falls. Gagnon opened the scoring with a goal in the 51st minute and then assisted on Anthony Fox’s goal 13 minutes later. The Bulldogs, winners of their past six matches, will play Skyview in today’s title match. Skyview took third place at state last year.
• Idaho State 3A: Gooding (13-1-2) scored twice in the second half and hung on to beat Bonners Ferry 2-0 in a semifinal match in Twin Falls. The Badgers (9-8-2) will play Teton, last year’s runner-up, this morning for third place.
Volleyball
Greater Spokane League: Darby Santos had 11 kills, 14 assists and six aces to lead Shadle Park (6-3) to a 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 win over visiting Central Valley (6-3) in both teams’ regular-season finale.
Shadle Park’s Highlanders will host Rogers on Tuesday. The winner of that match will be the fourth seed to the 3A regional tournament. The Bears, second seed among the 4A teams, will play Tuesday at top-seeded Mead in the district title match.
