Mead soccer advances to regional play
Anna Kessler and Martha Heaps scored second-half goals and Mead (10-4) blanked Gonzaga Prep 2-0 in District 8 4A girls soccer Friday at Spokane Falls Community College.
The Bullpups (10-6) had several promising scoring opportunities in the first half, but were unable to capitalize. The Panthers secured the second seed to the regional tournament while Gonzaga Prep was eliminated.
District 8 3A: Morgan Crosby scored two first-half goals and University went on to beat Shadle Park 4-0 at Spokane Falls Community College.
Rylee Crosby added a goal and an assist for the Titans (10-5), who advance to the regional tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Highlanders (4-10) were eliminated.
Cross country
The Lakeside boys and girls teams raced to titles at the Bi-District 6/7 meet at Walla Walla Point State Park in Wenatchee.
The Eagles’ Ryan Coffman won the boys race. Coffman finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 24.42 seconds. Medical Lake’s Zeb Klemke was second in 16:32.71.
The Cardinals finished in second place, followed by Cashmere, Quincy and Riverside.
Lakeside had the top two finishers in the girls race. Lindy Jacobson won in 19:14.24 and Sofia Marikis was second in 19:27.88. The Riverside girls – with four runners finishing inside the top 10 – took second place.
Idaho volleyball
Priest River beat Shelley and Kimberly to reach the semifinals at the State 3A tournament at Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho.
• Emile Schlader had 38 kills on the day as Lewiston went 2-0 to reach the semifinals of the 5A state tournament at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls.
• In 4A, Sandpoint lost both its matches and was eliminated.
