Gonzaga women win Cal Poly invitational

Gonzaga placed four golfers in the top 10 on Tuesday, led by fifth-place Victoria Fallgren, to overcome an 11-shot first-round deficit and win the 17-team Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational at Arroyo Grande, Calif.

The Bulldogs shot a final-round 297 to finish at 609, three shots ahead of Southern Utah.

Fallgren finished at 2-over-par 148. GU’s Raychelle Santos (149) tied for sixth and the Bulldogs’ Alice Kim and Angela DeVilla tied for ninth at 150. DeVilla played as an individual.

Northern Arizona freshman Savana Bezdicek (Mt. Spokane High) shot consecutive even-par 73s to win by one stroke.

Volleyball

Alex Bucholtz, Annie Arnzen and Kate Hart combined for 23 kills while leading Community Colleges of Spokane (25-8) to a 3-0 nonconference sweep of Colorado Northwestern (0-24) at Spokane Falls CC. Bucholtz added eight digs, Hart four aces and Malea Webb 26 assists for the Sasquatch, who host Columbia Basin at 6 tonight in a match televised by SWX.

Men’s golf

Chris Williams (Moscow High) swept his match to help Washington defeat Michigan 14 1/2-9 1/2 in the eighth-place match of the Stanford Classic at Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Women’s soccer

Sophomore forward Cassie Black and junior defender Brianna Brannan of Eastern Washington were named to the All-Big Sky Conference second team. EWU sophomore defender Katie Cashman and junior midfielder Katy Allen were named honorable mention.

Women’s basketball

Washington State broke open a close game with an 8-0 run to start the second half in a 67-52 exhibition win over Simon Fraser in Pullman. Freshman Lia Galdeira led a balanced Cougar attack with 12 points.
