Woman’s body found in Medical Lake

UPDATED: Tue., Sept. 4, 2012

An autopsy shows a 36-year-old woman whose body was found floating in Medical Lake this morning drowned.

The body was spotted by a city employee about 10 feet from the shore at Waterfront Park about 9 a.m., according to Spokane County sheriff’s Spokesman Deputy Craig Chamberlin. A deputy attempted life-save procedures, but it was apparent the woman was dead.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy this afternoon and concluded the cause of death was drowning.

Major crimes detectives initially responded to investigate. Any time the sheriff’s office responds to a call involving a death that is not obviously natural, investigators treat it as a crime scene until it can be proven otherwise.

The medical examiner’s office will release the name of the female pending next of kin notification.
