Religion Notebook: Back2School means music, games, gifts

Spokane First Church of the Nazarene’s Youth Ministries will present a free concert, Back2School Blast, Saturday from 3 p.m. until dark at the church, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd.

The day will feature local teen bands. Audience members can vote for their favorite act. The most popular will win a full day of professional recording at Amplified Wax.

There will be a CD giveaway, as well as T-shirts, gift cards and games.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., will host a community dance and barbecue Friday from 6 to 8:15 p.m.

The day will include food for purchase, music and games.

The cost to attend is $5 per person, not to exceed $20 per family.

2012 Red Mass will be Monday

Gonzaga University School of Law will present the 2012 Red Mass for the Legal Profession at 5:30 p.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Church, 330 E. Boone Ave.

A reception will follow the service at Cataldo Hall.

The Most Rev. Blase Cupich, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Spokane will be the principal celebrant and deliver the homily. Judge Gregory Sypolt will be honored with the 2012 Distinguished Judicial Service Award.

The Red Mass is a celebration attended by judges, lawyers, law students and officials seeking guidance to strengthen all in the legal community and effectively achieve justice. The tradition dates to the Middles Ages.

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present its final Summer Senior Days event Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Seniors 55 and older are invited to attend lunch, social time, live music games and tours of the facility.
